The relationship between wellbeing and music has been extensively documented in recent years. Stimulating chemical release, energising mood, connecting with emotions, and boosting confidence, music can have a hugely positive effect on physical and mental health. Music can alleviate depression, reduce stress, and foster purpose and resilience.
Virtuoso Welsh harpist Catrin Finch has recently begun to explore our deep relationship with music and its impact on our health. She has a particular personal interest in the close relationship between composition, performance, and wellbeing. In the first part of the evening, Catrin will introduce and present the early stages of this new project of composition.
After the interval, she will play a special selection of the music that has been most important in her professional career and nurtured her own personal wellbeing.
Travelling to Lampeter
Its remoteness from all the hustle and bustle is part of what makes Lampeter a very special place.
However, you still have to get here!
This year’s tourist publicity for nearby Carmarthen (the hometown of Merlin) bears the slogan: ‘The adventure begins where the M4 ends!’. Quite so. For those travelling from the South, the motorway will take you to Carmarthen, then it is about forty minutes on the A485.
For your SatNav, the postcode of the University is: SA48 7HB
By Public Transport
Lampeter’s railway station was cut by Dr Beeching—-though a local lobby pushes to have it restored! Therefore the nearest railheads are Carmarthen (for Cardiff, Bristol, and London) and Aberystwyth (for the Midlands and the North).
Local buses then connect to Lampeter (the TrawsCymru T1).
Similarly, national coaches can take you to Carmarthen or Aberystwyth. There you will probably need to change to the local bus: the TrawsCymru T1.
